Edible Habitats and Plant Life

Objective

Students will build an edible model to showcase the different types of landforms and animal habitats.

  • Premade Pie Crust – landform
  • Chocolate Pudding – water
  • Pretzel Sticks – sawgrass
  • Chocolate Chips – alligators
  • Butterscotch Chips – crocodiles
  • Chocolate Raisins – Spoonbill birds
  • Sugar Waffle Cookies – Great Blue Heron birds
  • Marshmallows – tropical plants

Mountains

  • Premade Pie Crust – landform
  • Ice Cream Cone – crust of Earth
  • Green Icing – plant life
  • Jelly Beans – rocks
  • Crushed Oreos – sediment dust
  • Pretzel Sticks – tree trunks
  • Marshmallows – wildflowers
  • Chocolate Chips – bears
  • Butterscotch Chips – coyotes
  • Twizzlers – snakes
Grasslands
  • Premade Pie Crust – landform
  • Vanilla Pudding With Green Food Coloring – grass

Experimental Procedure

Student will receive the items to make one edible model to showcase their understanding of the selected habitat. Once student has created their edible model, they will explain the different elements of the habitat including landform, animals and plant life.
