Kindergarten Curriculum Overview

STEM and science for early elementary students.

Science is messy. We do not always know the answer when we start.

We play. We explore. We poke around and stir things up. We try something not because we already know what will happen but because we want to know what will happen. Play off of students' natural curiosity in the classroom all while developing science, math, and literacy skills.

What does STEM look like in kindergarten?

Our kindergarten science curriculum aligns STEM activities to Next Generation Science Standards. Science lessons build on prior knowledge and experiences, which enables students to connect to new concepts and skills. Age-appropriate interactive activities, songs, and characters within engaging lesson plans bring kindergarten science to life. With math and literacy skills incorporated in every lesson, Science4Us is more than science education.

This is the year to build a framework for future science learning. Science4Us takes it further by providing opportunities for the youngest students to explore science concepts and practice literacy skills simultaneously using bite-sized lessons, perfect for center time, whole class lessons, or small groups.

What do kindergarteners learn in STEM?

Kindergarteners are new to the study of science. Inquiry introduces students to the tools they will use throughout the year to help them make observations and measure. These tools may be as familiar as their five senses or as unfamiliar as a balance scale. Students will use scientific tools and inquiry skills as they work through all the modules they study.

The Physical Science lessons show students how to describe objects and sort them by their physical properties. For the Inquiry Science activities, students investigate and experiment with tools. In the Life Science activities, students observe and investigate plants and animals. The Earth and Space Science lessons allow kindergarten students to explore science concepts beyond their reach! Our kindergarten curriculum prepares students for 1st-grade STEM!
