1st-Grade Curriculum Overview
First grade STEM and science curriculum overview.
Exploration fuels first graders’ STEM science journey.
First graders gain new understandings of everyday concepts through investigation and exploration. For STEM learning, students use their imagination and prior knowledge to answer questions about what they know and develop their own ideas of how things work.

What do first graders learn in STEM?
In our first-grade STEM curriculum, students revisit topics in math and science and explore new subjects. Physical Science gives the youngest scientists the opportunity to grow their understanding of everyday objects and how they work in our daily lives. For Inquiry Science activities, students play and experiment to see what happens and begin to build their own rules and expectations about how the world works. Life Science activities will expand on what the students learned in kindergarten about plants and animals by focusing on the characteristics of living things and the diversity of life. In the Earth and Space Science lessons, students will receive the foundation to develop an understanding of the Earth. Our 1st-grade curriculum prepares students for 2nd-grade STEM!

- Science4Us Principal, Broward County Public Schools, FLScience4Us meets the needs of our digital natives. It allows them to do experiments, practice reading skills and produce math in relation to science. My second graders LOVED it. They really enjoyed the interactive notebook and being able to go back and see how their ideas changed as they learned more.
- Science4Us Teacher, Palm Beach County Public School District, FLWhen I walk down the halls, kids grab me by the legs and say, ‘we’re going to science!’ I was amazed because I hadn’t heard that enthusiasm from students before.
