Science4Us aligns with Next Generation Science Standards for K-2
The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) are K–12 science content standards, providing expectations for student knowledge and application. Science4Us curriculum aligns with NGSS for the youngest students, so finding the best way to achieve success in grades K-2 just got a whole lot easier.
NGSS includes three distinct and equally important dimensions of science education, which are Crosscutting Concepts, Science and Engineering Practices, and Disciplinary Core Ideas. The dimensions combine to form each standard and help students build solid foundations in science knowledge. Let’s take a closer look at three-dimensional learning.

Crosscutting Concepts for Grades K-2
Crosscutting Concepts explores connections between the four domains of science, including Physical Science, Life Science, Earth and Space Science, and Engineering Design. The goal is to help students build a worldview with a scientific basis of understanding. NGSS highlights seven key crosscutting concepts that can be found throughout the fields of science and engineering across subject areas. Science4Us helps students make connections by emphasizing crosscutting concepts in each lesson, such as the online activity “De-Construct Zone”.
Science and Engineering Practices for Grades K-2
Science and Engineering Practices develop the idea of authentic investigations, just like real-world scientists and engineers encounter. Inquiry in science is encouraged and developed. Students build and apply knowledge of core ideas and crosscutting concepts through practices, such as Asking Questions and Defining Problems, Developing and Using Models, Analyzing and Interpreting Data, and Engaging in Argument From Evidence. Offline resources in Science4Us ask students to use their knowledge of the natural world to engineer creations — in this example, students must draw upon their studies of physical and chemical reactions in order to make a piece of cinnamon toast!
Disciplinary Core Ideas
Disciplinary Core Ideas bring key ideas with broad importance in science or engineering disciplines, including Chemical Reactions, Types of Interactions, Definitions of Energy, and Structure and Properties of Matter. The core ideas, which are grouped into Physical Science, Life Science, Earth and Space Science, and Engineering, build on each other throughout grade levels. All Science4Us modules are organized into four overarching units that align with these core ideas. One of the core ideas within the standard “Matter and its Interactions” is about changes in matter, including chemical reactions (PS1.B). Science4Us lets students play around with physical and chemical changes by transporting them to a virtual carnival!
Hands-On Learning and Instruction with Science4Us
NGSS places a much greater emphasis on experiential learning. It recognizes that students need both knowledge and practice to succeed in science and engineering.
At Science4Us, we believe in a hands-on approach to learning and include opportunities to engage in science or engineering practices in every lesson.
Both NGSS and Science4Us were built upon the belief that it is important to integrate literacy and math into science instruction. This interdisciplinary approach helps teachers maximize their class time by allowing students to learn new science concepts while also improving skills and making connections across subjects.
It’s important to focus on science in the early years. All you have to do is begin a lesson in Science4Us, and your students will master the concepts and skills they need in the most engaging way possible.
